Yunjian (Jojo) Qiu

Assistant Professor
Mechanical Engineering, SJSU

Dr. Yunjian (Jojo) Qiu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at San José State University. She received her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southern California, where she studied engineering design automation and intelligent design systems.

Dr. Qiu’s research focuses on AI-supported human-centered design, particularly how artificial intelligence can enhance creativity, optimization, and reasoning in engineering. Her current projects include AI-assisted design optimization for arm supports in pediatric upper-limb exoskeletons, with an emphasis on connecting design geometry to 3D printing performance and machine learning-supported microfluidic channel design and optimization for point-of-care biomedical devices.

Beyond research, Dr. Qiu is passionate about engineering education and mentorship, integrating AI and human-centered design principles into the mechanical engineering curriculum to prepare students for the future of intelligent design and manufacturing.
