I am a Professor of Computer Engineering at San Jose State University (SJSU). I earned my Ph.D. in Computer Science from North Carolina State University in 2010. In 2003, I worked at the National Security Research Institute at ETRI in Korea. At SJSU, I received the Excellence Award as a distinguished faculty mentor for the SJSU Student Research Competition in 2017. I was honored as the Kordestani Endowed Chair in the College of Engineering in both 2016 and 2017 for my achievements as a distinguished research professor. Additionally, I received the Faculty Award for Excellence in Scholarship from the College of Engineering in 2018. I am the President and Founder of the Silicon Valley Cybersecurity Institute (SVCSI), a nonprofit organization in Silicon Valley dedicated to supporting underrepresented groups in pursuing careers in cybersecurity. From July 2019 to August 2020, I served as a visiting professor at IBM Almaden Research. In 2021, I was the Vice Chair of the IEEE Computer Society, Santa Clara Valley Chapter. Most recently, I was awarded the CAHSI-Google Cybersecurity Curriculum Fellowship in Fall 2024. Since 2023, I have been actively involved in the CAHSI-Google Cybersecurity Research project, along with several National Science Foundation (NSF) projects, including NSF REU and NSF SaTC. My primary research interests lie in network and system security. My research has been supported by the National Science Foundation and numerous local industries.
