Dr. Smita Duorah is an educator and researcher with extensive experience in engineering and physics. A lecturer at San Jose State University since 2006, she teaches materials science, semiconductor, and introductory engineering courses while mentoring students. She holds a Doctor of Science degree in Physics from the University of Tokyo, where her research focused on plasma diagnostics using soft X-ray spectroscopy. Dr. Duorah has contributed to major scientific projects in plasma experiments at Japan’s National Institute for Fusion Science. She leads initiatives like the EXCEED program to improve retention and graduation rates and has presented on guided pathways advising at academic conferences. An active member of the American Society for Engineering Education, she has been recognized for her community service with a California Legislature Assembly Certificate of Recognition.
