Dean’s Message

On behalf of the Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering at San José State University, it is my great honor to welcome you to our 12ᵗʰ annual gathering of innovators, leaders and change-makers.
This year’s theme, Engineering Beyond Imagination, arrives at a pivotal moment. Artificial intelligence is reshaping every sector represented here today. Climate change is demanding bold infrastructure solutions. Semiconductor advances are redefining computing power and energy efficiency. Biotechnology is accelerating drug discovery at unprecedented speed. Aerospace is entering a new era of commercialization and deep-space ambition. The systems we design now will influence how humanity works, heals, travels and sustains itself for generations.
Engineers are no longer simply building tools; we are shaping the ethical, social and environmental frameworks within which those tools operate. As AI becomes embedded in personal devices, medical diagnostics, transportation networks and national defense systems, we must ask not only what can be built, but how and for whom. The responsibility to design thoughtfully, inclusively and sustainably has never been greater.
Women in engineering are essential to meeting this moment. Diverse perspectives strengthen innovation. Inclusive teams build better systems. Your leadership, technical expertise and lived experiences are critical as we confront global challenges that demand both rigor and empathy.
Today’s program reflects the breadth of opportunity before us — from software and information technology to electronics and semiconductor equipment, biomedical and biotech breakthroughs, aerospace and aeronautics, and the future of infrastructure and the environment. I encourage you to engage deeply, ask difficult questions and connect with those who challenge and inspire you.
My sincere thanks to our sponsors, speakers, panelists, faculty, professional development leaders, students and staff who make this conference possible. Your commitment fuels this community.
We are here for one another. We are here to lead.
Enjoy the conference!
